Tuition will increase by about $1,000 next year — about $500 per semester — Loyola President Jo Ann Rooney announced on Monday.
In a community-wide message on Jan. 22, Rooney announced a 2.4 percent tuition increase for the 2018-19 academic year. She noted it was the lowest increase in the past few years.
However, meal plan prices and room and board rates will increase.
Tuition has increased every year for the past decade at Loyola, and a tuition increase this year was to be expected. Chief Financial Officer Wayne Magdziarz told The PHOENIX in November to expect between a 2 and 2.5 percent increase.
Last year, Rooney announced a 2.5 percent tuition increase and a 2.5 percent increase in the room and board rate. This year, room and board will increase between zero and 4.7 percent depending on a where a student lives on campus.
Meal plan rates will increase by 2.5 percent, according to Rooney, to compensate increased costs of food and dining hall workers’ pay.
The student activity fee and technology fee will also not change, Rooney wrote, while some graduate student tuition rates will increase 2.5 percent.
Correction: An earlier version of this article said all graduate student tuition rates would go up, when in fact only a select few will.
